OBJECTIVES OF THE MODULE

This module aims to enable students to:

·         Understand the history of development, organization, operation of key regional mechanisms for protection of human rights, including the European, American, African and Arabs regions.

·         Understand the content of major regional human rights instruments.

·         Understand the interplay between regional mechanisms and international mechanisms for the protection and promotion of human rights.

·         Understand the advantages, disadvantages and development prospects of regional mechanisms for the protection and promotion of human rights, especially in Asia.

1)      Overview of regional law and mechanisms on human rights

2)      The European regional law and mechanisms

3)      The Americas regional law and mechanisms

4)      The African regional law and mechanisms

5)      The Arab regional law and mechanisms

6)      Possibility of developing law and mechanisms in Asia

7)      The relationship between law and regional mechanisms with international law and human rights regimes
